Gift & Loyalty Information
A stored value card is a plastic card, like a credit card, that features a magnetic strip along the back which stores information. Values (dollar amounts or point values) can be electronically programmed, activated, and maintained by the retailer or seller within the card's magnetic strip. A transaction (swiping the card through a terminal) is required to program or activate the stored values. The card is used by the owner to redeem the stored values. There are a variety of stored value-based programs that can be created by the retailer or marketer of stored value cards. Examples of programs utilizing stored value cards include:
- Gift Program
- Loyalty Programs
- VIP Cards
- Club Cards
- Membership Cards
- Sales Incentive Programs
- Rebates
- Store Credit
- Return Credit
- Employee Benefits
The many different ways a stored value card can be used is limited only by one's imagination. Any kind of program which is value based is a candidate for stored value card utilization.
